Spaghetti Sauce

  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion chopped
  • 1 pound of organic ground meat (turkey, chicken, beef, pork) - leave out meat for vegetarian option
  • 1 25 oz jar of organic pasta sauce (check the label for added sugar, preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce)
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp rosemary
  • 2 tsp basil
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Optional extra veggie adds (great way to add more nutrients, opt for organic when possible):
  • 1 cup fresh chopped spinach or kale or ½ cup frozen spinach or kale
  • 1 cup mushrooms diced
  • 1 cup shredded or chopped carrots
  • 1 cup chopped bell peppers


  1. Heat olive oil in a large sauce pan over med-high heat
  2. Dice the onion, add to pan with olive oil, and cook until translucent about 5 mins
  3. Add in ground meat and cook until meat is no longer pink (about 10 mins), break up meat into small chunks with spatula
  4. Add in optional veggies and cook about 5 mins
  5. Add in pasta sauce and spices, mix thoroughly, turn up heat to high and bring sauce to a light boil, then turn down heat to low and let simmer for 5-10 mins.
  6. Enjoy over Spaghetti Squash, Red Lentil Pasta, Quinoa Pasta, or Chickpea Pasta.
